Mallam Isa Yuguda, just re-elected as governor of crisis-infested Bauchi State, has been in the news recently for the wrongest of reasons. He was alleged to have said the slain corp members in the state were destined to die,and that he had similar treatment while serving. He was also quoted to have said his house was also burnt,so people should stop complaining.He,however,reacted.
According to him,he actually said the death of the corp members should be seen as God's wish, and was destined to happen. His talk about similar treatment in Ibadan was just not what he said.He was clearly misquoted.
In as much as politicians can never be trusted, both in words and action,I however do not think Yuguda would have made any such obscene comment.First,he knew what it entailed and how the words of a leader could either unite or divide. Also, from his explanation,we could clearly see where he was coming from.I blame the press entirely for this.
In order to create catchy headline and make a mountain out of a molehill, they have shelved their responsibility. Now,they've set an agenda, and it is so not in favour of Yuguda.
It was better he clarified himself.I didn't need it anyway.I knew what he meant.
May God grant the slain corp members eternal rest, and may those never-do-well behind this never know peace.Amen.
