When,by divine intervention,Hon Dimeji Bankole,as young as he was, became the Speaker of the House of representative, nobody cried foul.Afterall,he was taking over from Madam Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, who had various cases of misappropriation of funds hanging over her shoulder. Little did we know we were set for a roller-coaster ride.Indeed,Etteh's tenure must be considered less controversial.
From cases of arrogance towards the members of the House to his obvious exchange of blows with the equally enigmatic out-going Ogun State governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel,it was clear this young man either rejected the fact people get reward for whatever they do or he didn't know at all.
Whenever we do wrong,we seek a second chance to right them.If we don't,we would forever be judged by that wrong. It is the same in politics.Just see what is set to become of Ikedi Ohakim and Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Bankole did wrong, but would not have the chance to either right or consolidate on the wrong.
As he leaves the lower house in shambles, much unlike his colleague in the upper house Senator David Mark has done,he must be wondering what else to do.He got a chance on a platter of gold, but lost it in shame.Ironically,Etteh would leave with head held high, and must be indirectly thankful to Bankole. His many controversies have dumped her sins to distant memory.
Goodbye Mr Controversy. The house would not miss you.
