Arsene Wenger,we all know,is a bad loser.Stoke City manager Tony Pulis once said ''a particular manager'' rejects post-match drinks with fellow managers whenever he loses. We actually needed no prophet to tell us whom that 'particular' man was.Arsene gets lots of knocks from fellow managers, many of whom he accuses of playing hard and 'anti-football' on his sleek players. One of them is Alex Ferguson's protégé,Alex McLeish.
Birmingham under McLeish play it the hard way.And whenever they play Arsenal,a red card or notable injury seems imminent. And then,in a most bizarre fashion, they beat Arsenal in th carling cup final to further prolong Arsene's six-year wait for a trophy. How elated Arsenal would have been to see them go down on Sunday! But how did it go wrong?
This was meant to be their best season, had they avoided the drop.Well,it wasn't to be.
But Arsenal, and indeed Arsene, would be glad to see them go.But hey Emirates,Stoke City,Wolves,Blackburn and whoever Sam Allardyce decides to join next season would be out for you.If those clubs make Arsenal not to win titles, then Arsene has years to wait.If those clubs go down,Allardyce won't.
But at least,Arsenal can enjoy the moment.Birmingham has been relegated.
