All good things, they say, would always come to an end.If anything,Manchester United would surely realise it this summer.Edwin Van Der Sar would leave.Replacing him,we hope, would not be impossible. But then, barring any miracle,Paul Scholes would join him. That would be a double blow.
In 1994,teenagers like David Beckham,Gary and Phil Neville,Nicky Butt,Ryan Giggs and Scholes came to the scene.Beyond all expectation, they won the league, after Alex Ferguson endured much criticism(''you would never win anything with kids").Seventeen years on,they are set to lose the last of those 'kids' left...wait a minute,37-year old Giggs is still there.
Nobody at Old Trafford wants him to leave. But in truth, his body language suggests he wants to.Then again,he doesn't feature much. But Ferguson wants him to stay and help develop the younger ones, even for a year more.
The man,who would be remembered more for his precise passing skills than his tackling, has been begged by everyone to stay.Gary Neville, who himself retired earlier in the seasen, has begged his close pal to stay(remember Gary planted a huge kiss on Scholes' lips when he scored that last minute goal against Manchester 'noisy neighbours' City).
We may not know whether he would stay. But we know, for sure,he would surely be missed if he leaves.
If he does,he would have left the way he has always been - in silence, out of the limelight. Why do all good things come to an end?Ask Nelly Furtado.Ask Paul Scholes!
