By the time the final whistle blows at Goodison Park next week,Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti would have one other thing in mind-Roman Abramovich would pull the trigger. That he knows. What, however,he may not know is whether the bullet would catch him.A lot of people wish, rather than expect it not to,yet the former AC Milan boss understands so well that sentiments are a rarity in modern day football, especially when a desperate owner is involved.Luis Felipe Scolari,Avram Grant,Jose Mourinho and Claudio 'Tinkerman' Ranieri know this well. And if the latter is considered, then Ancelotti has to fear the worst.
Ranieri is Italian, just like Ancelotti. Both are real gentlemen, and loved at Old Trafford(a big rarity). Both have close bond with AS Roma.Ancelotti is set to finish second, the way Ranieri finished his Chelsea managerial career.
Despite every permutations,Ancelotti deserves a second chance. His first season was fantastic. And who on earth would replace him?Marco Van Basten?Frank Rijkaard?Villa de Boas?Rafa 'fact' Benitez? One thing is certain. If any of these men replaces Ancelotti,it would suit Sir Alex Ferguson of Man United best.None seems a big threat.
Having said these,I'd be shocked if Abramovich failed to sack Ancelotti. It's in his nature. And if we need further clue to the ominous, then Ranieri's example is there to guide us.
