When I read that major opposition parties were set to work with president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, I was disappointed. But then I heard they had been invited for a meeting by GEJ. I also heard Buhari's CPC, as expected, didn't show up. I also heard ACN refused to join. LP, ANPP,APGA were now seen as the three parties ready to work with GEJ, even as PPA cried foul for not being invited. But National chairman of ANPP, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu said they would never work with GEJ. That they attended the meeting didn't mean they would join.
"It is,therefore, misleading and unfortunate for some sections of the media to insinuate that by attending the meeting, our great party had entered into a collaborative pact with the Federal Government." the former Abia State governor explained. The former presidential aspirant continued, "we remain unshaken...and will do nothing to injure this covenant with the Nigerian people."
Whether or not ANPP had a covenant with the people is a case for another day. However, the former Ebonyi State gubernatorial aspirant made the best statement ANPP would ever make. I said it before. Not accepting to work with GEJ wouldn't be because he is bad, because he isn't, rather the opposition joining the government in power denies room for constructive criticism, which is very important for the success of an administration. Lack of opposition could lead a government astray, and it would deny them the chance of making corrections, which the opposition identifies.
I commend ANPP. Now, APGA has to do its job. Yes,they endorsed GEJ. Does that make them the ruling party? No. LP has to also do same as ANPP, while I expect PPA to stop whining, and start their job...positive criticism. That way, Nigeria would be great.
