World Tennis No.3 Roger Federer gave Rafael Nadal the biggest gift of the French open. Gifts are usually given with joy, but not in this situation. It was a case of 'throw it away and it gets bad. Leave it, and it gets worse'. Even a baby in the womb knew that once Federer beat World No.2 Novak Djokovic, Nadal would win the French open. Indeed, Djokovic had been a sort of Nadal's bogey boy. It was therefore a favour Federer did for Nadal. But what would he have done? Lose to Djokovic to undermine Nadal, and as a result lose prominence forever?Federer is quite becoming a French open foil - always losing when so close to winning.
As for Nadal, he equalled a record in the French open, set 30-years ago, even before he was born. It's now six titles and counting.
This is indeed the best season for Spain. After winning the world cup, Barcelona won the champions' league and now Nadal has added more to their joy. Well done to them.
