Radical man of God and Vice-Presidential aspirant in the last presidential election cannot stop baffling me. He says things that make me wonder. Men of God are role models and are scrutinized seriously. He seems not to care. I ignored statements credited to him lately at first. But when it was reportedly said at the pulpit, I was astounded. Hear him last week,
“It is time to speak”, he reportedly said, “Look at the madness going on in Yoruba land. Imbecile, nincompoop, people without family background causing problem because of money, ill gotten wealth. If a town or settlement is at peace, the bastard there is yet to grow up.
“If you are a bastard, there is nothing you can do to cover up with money. Where is your father’s compound? A bastard pretending to be a patriot. We are proud of our heritage because we have goodly heritage. There are those who call themselves nobles who are under the influence of Jezebel. Until they drink kainkain, they cannot function... if you are trusting the son of a concubine to deliver you, you are in trouble”.
While he is human, and is purely expected to be angry at any time, it would be better for him to try tread with caution. His reputation is already in tatters. He has to watch his statements, even if to restore a bit of the respect he has lost.
But his recent attitude is clearly doing the opposite, and I wonder what his congregation think of him. Referring one (I know whom he was referring to, anyway) as a bastard or son of a concubine is as vulgar as they come for a man of God. He is yet to apologise for the killing instigated by his party after the general elections. Let him ask God for forgiveness.
