When my favourite striker in the English Premier League, Robbie Keane, left Tottenham in 2008 to join Rafa 'fact' Benitez at Liverpool, I felt downhearted. I knew he made the decision more on sentiment (he's a Liverpool fan). Six months later, he was out of Liverpool and back at Tottenham. Not a few wondered why he left at the first place.
He was Tottenham captain, was in the best partnership with Dimitar Berbatov and was actually well paid. On the other hand, aside the sentimental talk, he must have left because Berbatov also moved, to Manchester United. More importantly, it seemed he wasn't comfortable with Juande Ramos, a manager that replaced his 'father' Martin Jol.
Ever since he was misused and destroyed by the unfriendly Benitez, he has been suffering. From Celtic (another club he supports) to Tottenham and then West Ham, he has yet to recover. But, with him scoring for his country to break a record, he got what seemed to be a better news - Martin Jol, his 'father', has returned to England, after spells in Germany and his native Netherland. Now it seems Keane would settle down again.
Considered a father-figure, it is no surprise Jol looks like the best manager for a sulky Keane. All the same, I can't wait to see my favourite football characters back to their best, and this time, for Fulham's gain.
