As both teams trudged off Stamford Bridge, they knew the battle was far from over. But then,Manchester United know they could see a light at the tunnel's end. They have taken a giant stride towards Champions' league glory.Yet this is a team criticised so badly all season, for being poor by their own high standard.Yet they remain in the League,FA Cup and Champions' league.
The manner they defeated Chelsea speaks volume, not for the scoreline. The fact almost everyone struggled to identify United's best player on the night says it all.Their team effort and obduracy have been the highlight of a poor, but potentially record-matching season.Ryan Giggs continues to roll back the years with consistent performances, while Edwin Van Der Sar is,ironically, giving United fans sorrows. His decision to call time on his career at the end of the season still stands. Both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand were nice at the back, while Michael Carrick, though not liked by a lot,was immaculate in his display.Wayne Rooney, the enigma, put his disciplinary problems aside to put United on the driving seat.
With the final at Wembley,United know they stand a huge change. From all indication, they would have to beat Schalke O4,and await the winners of the 'el classico' between Barcelona and Real Madrid.in the final.
Chelsea?Well, they would be back next season, without their coach, and other scapegoats.Typical Chelsea!
