With a little less than 48 hours to the so-called rescheduled INEC general elections,we are yet to know whether or not it would actually take place. What we hear is, 'materials are not enough', 'Jega wants to resign', 'opposition parties are trying to boycott', bla bla bla.
The signs are not good.Even then,I hear corp members were largely used for the last cancelled election, and they made a huge mess of the whole thing. Why not?Afterall, they were never well drilled and trained for such delicate job.I imagine a bunch of confused corp members being thrust on an equally unaware people.
While we wait in anticipation, positively or not,for Saturday, one thing I owe myself and the country is my vote. And I must cast it.
In a related issue,I can't still understand what is going on in Akwa-Ibom.Obong Godswill Akpabio, who has done so excellent in Akwa-Ibom so far,but also is popular for his great use of hyperbole, and the lavishly-named Senator John James AkpanUdoedeghe of the ACN are fast tearing the state apart.Fresh from the 'genitalgate',where Akpabio alleged four of his supporters lost their genitals in the fracas between his and Udoedeghe's people,he went further by accusing Udoedeghe of wanting to share the state fund with him. That seems an old,and unimportant story though,if we consider how bad it has gone.
AkpanUdoedeghe had been accused of treason(!) and whisked away by the police. The enormity of the crisis needed intervention. The federal government turned a blind eye, even when Madam AkpanUdoedeghe, who incidentally hails from Ikot Ekpene,Akpabio's hometown, cried out.We are still waiting. The court just ordered AkpanUdoedeghe to be bailed. But the problem,I fear,is far from over.
Let's pray for peace
