When,as we expect,President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan takes over finally as an elected leader, history would have been made. For him,it would be the first time he gets elected(It's so easy to forget he was never elected governor. He took over from Deprieye Alameseigha. He also took over from Yar'adua). For us,it would be the first time Nigeria spoke, and was heard.
The country's unity in this massive acceptance is so emotional, that is if I'm not guilty of understatement. He has gotten his reward for humility, loyalty and good luck.
We,especially the Igbos whom I speak for here, would want him not to let us down.We expect to be paid back the way we supported him.We expect the constant marginalization of the Igbo man to be a thing of the past.Poverty, infrastructural decay, bad leadership, increase in school fees, unemployment, lack of power supply, theft, kidnapping, etc would be expected to be a thing of the past.
People say Jonathan is a gentleman, and Nigeria needs a strong, tougher man.I ask, what have the strong, tougher men in the past done?Maybe we should try a gentleman and see where that leads us. In any case,GEJ may still not be such a gentleman. He could be a rough diamond.
As long as the gentleman makes the right decisions, who cares?
Nigeria would be great.Take it from me.
