When you are in power,everyone identifies with you.When you are out of it,even your closest friends deny you.Especially when you get out of it the manner the Gbagbos did.
Simone Gbagbo,ex-first lady of Ivory Coast,wielded such influence while in power,that she got many nicknames,prominent among them being 'Iron Lady'. She would always be remembered for being 'born again'. Indeed,the 61-year old never let her Bible stay far from her.Anywhere she went,she clutched her possession.Any statement she made without 'God' mentioned couldn't have been hers.Could we have forgotten so soon how she said ''God chose Gbagbo.Gbagbo is Godsent.Let God's will be done''?
But she has been called a hypocrite.Her constant battles with Gbagbo's 37-year old 3rd wife(Simone is actually the 2nd.Gbagbo divorced his 1st,who is French),Nadiana Bamba,who incidentally is muslim and from Ouattara's north,prompted the latter,who has allegedly run to Ghana with her 8-year old son,to reportedly say, ''If she's the first lady of the house,then I am the grande dame...''
It is indeed the end of an era for this 'evangelical Christian mother'.She had her time.Now,enter Mame Ouattara...
