Gists in Nigeria

In a few weeks,the long awaited election starts.But yours faithfully is confused on whom to vote.Ok,I accept I would vote for our dear GEJ as president. Afterall,that is everybody's wish.Not that other contestants are bad.Just that,at the moment,I feel GEJ is the one.Maybe I'd change my mind before the election,who knows.
As you would expect,my dilemma is on Abia State.Who do I vote for on the election day,if I were to be there that day?Before you call me cocky,let me quickly do so myself.Yes,my vote would go a long way in deciding who becomes the governor(Sorry I'm so obssessed with matters of this state.I just can't help it)
Do I vote for Prince Paul Ikonne of the ACN?Not a chance,if you ask me.He was part and parcel of this catastrophic administration.
Do I go for Chris Akomas of the PPA?No way.Even though he is such a nice man,I doubt I would love this godfather thing again.
May be I should vote for Stanley Ohajuruka of the LP?No.He seems unserious and a bit unsure of his chances.
Or the ANPP man(what's his name again?)?Well,no.He is,as you now notice,unpopular.
Then I should re-vote the incumbent governor T.A Orji of PPA,then APGA,and then PDP?DON'T EVEN GO THERE!!NEVER GONNA HAPPEN!!!!
The problem is this:we have no strong candidate.If Ikechi Emenike,who is still in court,wins his case(by God's grace),then I wouldn't think twice voting for him.But for now,I feel one man could be managed.He is Reagan Ochiagha Ufomba of APGA.I feel he has the charisma.You only need to see him in a second to like him.I did in hours,and I got so obssessed.He speaks so passionately about the state,has no godfather,fears nobody and is so vast.I spoke with him for just a few minutes,and I wished there and then he would become the governor without any election!
Time has come,Abians,to vote for your future.Time has come,to help change your state for the better.Only your vote would do that.Years of deceit and misrule has to be over,and we have to make it so.Let us vote for the personality,and not the party.Let us choose Ufomba.
Note,he is not related to me,and he doesn't even have my number.I speak from what I have seen,and wish we all would see.

No warrior takes yes for an answer,they say.
It is no longer news that the Ogun State Governor,Otunba Gbenga Daniel(OGD),had been in a running battle for the soul of the state with the former president of the country,Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.What is news is the fact that OGD shamelessly went on his knees begging for forgiveness.Now,in Nigerian politics,that is a show of cowardice and evidence of total loss.Indeed,it is even worse that it has to do with OBJ,a man who is always right,and who feels he should have his way.
What baffles me is the shame at which our politicians speak from both sides of the mouth.Just a few weeks ago,OBJ was an enemy of peace and democracy,at least to OGD.He called OBJ all unprintable names and even said he wanted to destroy the state.All of a sudden,he goes begging for forgiveness.I ask,for what?
Since OBJ is an enemy to democracy,why then would OGD go back begging him for forgiveness?What forgiveness?May be,OGD has forgotten history.Anybody who asks Baba for forgiveness,and is forgiven,goes down later.Ask Audu Ogbeh and Chuba Okadigbo(oh,no,we can't.He's dead!).
OGD has proved that he has no iota of shame in him.Not just that,he has just told people one thing,with his actions: he is a liar and can never be trusted.May be,he actually deserved all the boos he got at the weekend during the PDP presidential rally.
One thing looks certain: ACN is on the move in that state and like a moving train,could crush OGD and his likes!

The first lady of Nigeria,Dame Patience Jonathan is known for a number of things,both for the wrong and right reasons.After all,nobody can deny her generousity.She said her husband is also the husband of other Nigerian women.So i expect her not to complain when she hears any funny talks about hubby.Also,her sense of unity is not in doubt.Why not,when she has been urging Nigerians to enter the 'umblerra'.We cannot fault her sense of sympathy.No wonder she calls the widows "my fellow widows"!
On a rather serious note,her recent statement in Abia State has made her public dressing down of Rivers State Governor,Rotimi Amaechi,last year look ordinary.While in Abia State on a rally,the 'daughter of the state' reportedly said that whether the citizens of the state voted in the forth-coming election or not,the governor,Chief T.A Orji must rule the state,come what may.All who were present were left with mouth agape.
Now,Abians have been made to look foolish.They now fear their votes may not actually count.That would be regrettable,because the president of the country is an advocate of one man one vote,or so it seems.
People are beginning to wonder whether the president does,or can,talk to his wife at all.All these statements are doing a few damages to him,or so it seems.
I just pray my vote counts on that day,else i do it where it would count:


Kaduna!

It was all too predictable.It happened in Tunisia.Then Egypt.Everybody,not least myself,expected them to go further.Nobody would pretend not to have noticed the political revolution going on in North Africa as the people took their future into their own hands.'Political lords' have had a lot to say,while the media would not be idle for a while.Ben Ali of Tunisia was accused of bad leadership.Mubarak of Egypt was certified guilty of the same sin.Now,what I am yet to know is whether Gaddafi is guilty of the same.
I attended a seminar recently and a professor said something, "Why,all of a sudden,are Libyans angry with Gaddafi's leadership?Are they unhappy he hasn't done well,or are they angry he has stayed for long?If the former is the reason,then no problem.If it is the latter,then they have obviously lost it." And I couldn't agree less.
Going on,he said,"I feel these Arabian 'revolutionists' are being sponsored by whom the world may or may not know". That,I also agree with.
You can understand fight against poor leadership and suffering,but you can never forgive imitation.I hope Libya isn't guilty of that!

In this election period,a lot of states have been involved in political debates.Right.Afterall,it gave the contestants the chance to say whatever they wanted and tell more lies.But as is the case these days,the event in Abia's political debate went one further.Drama and counter drama showed itself.The governor stormed out because the hall was ''filled with PPA members.'' So he never participated.Whether he was scared that he would be given a dressing down by the contestants,we never got to know.
But hey,he was booed in church,booed in the stadium,booed in his village,and even booed on the road.If all those booing him are PPA members,then he is in trouble because the state must be filled with PPA.
Despite all these,I feel the political debate wouldn't change a thing.The riggers are ready and some people are set to be imposed on a lot of us.All the same,let us enjoy the election dramas while they last.

In late 2002,nollywood,that name given to Nigerian Movie Industry by only-God-Knows-who,lost a soul.That soul so much loved the industry that he so much wanted to be a part of it.That soul so much loved the professionalism that the industry enjoyed,even if to a little extent,that he always wanted to see the movies.Not just that soul,a lot of people wanted so much to identify with it.
However,all of a sudden,things turned awry.It wasn't unexpected anyway.First,some illiterates in Iweka


and Pound Roads respectively,started deciding whom to use and who not to use.With it,quacks invaded the industry.A few wanna-be actresses just needed to be girlfriends to one of the marketers to become stars.It didn't end there.
If it didn't help that piracy was a bane to the growth of the industry,lack of finance was a chief culprit.Half-baked low budget movies were produced and the viewers started losing interest.We knew they were indirectly pointing the gun at their faces.Recent events have proved they actually did pull the trigger.Now,nollywood and its practitioners are being dismissed with a wave of hand.I laugh when I hear a few of them rattle that the industry is the third best after Hollywood and Bollywood! How funny!Or maybe they are right.Afterall the number of movies churned out could outnumber the Nigerian population.Is it not worthy of regret that no Nigerian actor has graduated to Hollywood?Do we think the world do not know?And who on earth is worthy of Hollywood?Genevieve Nnaji,maybe,but not terrible actresses(I choose the female,because in my opinion,they are the guilty ones in this case) who feel they have arrived when they have offered nothing.The likes of Ini Edo,Mercy Johnson and the nude-freak Tonto Dike come to mind here.
Until the practitioners come together and decide to change one or two things,then the future remains regrettably bleak for them.I think they have to borrow a leaf from their counterparts in the music industry.

Social media,stuffs like facebook and twitter were created to further globalise the world and bring it to our doorsteps.It has also helped in political awareness.Obama used it to good effect,so did Egypt as they fought to oust Mubarak.
However,it has been soiled.Hey,this chat was between me and a GUY!If not for facebook,who would have the guts to see me on the way and talk such to me?

rtunity we have got with the internet and do useful things with our lives.Through the social media,we could learn quite a great deal - politics,entertainment,sports and other things that relieve us of stress and banalities of life,but certainly not what we have read above.Thank you.
