Gists in Nigeria

 Gen Muhammadu OKechukwu Buhari has won
the presidential election at umpteenth time of
asking. I can do nothing but congratulate him
and wish him all the best. He has proved to be a
determined fighter.
I also want to commend president Goodluck
Jonathan, a fine gentleman, someone you cannot
but love. This is not the end for him. Politically,
he still remains young. Who knows, he could
come back to Aso rock one day. I wish him all
the best.
I hope Buhari's victory would bring the change
we have all been looking for. That is no more
than Nigerians deserve. Let this country thrive.
I want to congratulate people like Babatunde
Fashola and Rochas Okorocha who have shown
that APC could really work, as they have shown
in Lagos and Imo respectively. This victory is for
them. I also want to blame those PDP
governors; they know themselves and people
know who I have in mind; who have failed
themselves, their various states and its people.
This loss is in no small measure their faults.
As we enter a new dispensation, let us now
know peace, joy and unity. Ethnic and religious
differences should be a thing of the past, as we
move towards creating a new Nigeria.

On Saturday, I will love something to happen. I
may be confused on who to
vote for on the presidential election, but there is
one reason I am
optimistic. Somebody would get disgraced, and
he is TA Orji. There is
nothing else he deserves than that. He has failed
Abia state and himself.
This is a man who has spent eight years as a
governor, and has nothing to
show for it. This is a man who has all at his beck
and call to succeed, and
he failed to utilize it. This is a man who is yet to
understand the true
meaning of democracy. He is the one to lose.
What a way to end his political career. He has
decided to deride himself
for the last time and contest for a senatorial seat.
God forbid that such
people represent us. Abia is moving forward and
no more backwards. We shall
put hands together and vote him out, while he
waits for EFCC. Justice would
be done.
For eight years, our roads got worse. For eight
years, we suffered
lethargic and inconsistent payment of salaries,
gratuities and pensions.
For eight years, we suffered unemployment. We
suffered intimidation and 13th
century administration. We endured all these,
even as corrupt media houses
sang the praise of a failed leader who spends
handsomely to get praised.
We Abians, home and abroad, would make a huge
statement on this election.
We will start on Saturday by pushing him out of
our state. Then we will
vote in his successor. That successor would be a
man who has distinguished
himself in the banking industry and is ready to
clean up Orji’s mess. His
name is Alex Otti.

The mood is just so tense. This is surely not how
I found it in 1999. It
was not this way in 2003. In 2007, the mood was
better. Even in 2011, it
was much better. Maybe I am wrong; I could
have been too young then,
afterall. However, we still cannot but notice how
different this election
period has been.
It just feels like it’s a last chance for us. Heck, it
feels like we would
never get it right again, if we failed this time.

Jonathan; a gentleman, soft spoken and quiet
man, the devil we know, is on
the one hand. General Muhammadu Okechukwu
Buhari (Igbo names have become so
lovely all of a sudden); a no-nonsense, outspoken
and strict man, also a
devil we know, is on the other hand. For the first
time, an election
contest looks too close to call. From 1999, every
presidential election has
come up and ended the way I predicted it. This
time, there is not a
slightest chance of prediction.
I have never told any friend where I stood on this,
and that is because I
stand nowhere! I love president Jonathan. This
man-with-no-shoes from
Otuoke has always shown himself a gentlemen.
Never talks too much, never
fights; he just seems too gentleman to be a
president of a rough country
like Nigeria! But make no mistakes. I must
confess Jonathan has done okay.
He has not done well. He has done just okay.
From what he has also put in
towards stopping the deadly book haram sect, I
believe he would deal with
this scourge finally, if he returns. General Buhari,
from what they say and
which I cannot confirm, did well when he held
forth many years ago. But
then, I naturally love this man. I do not know
what else he has done.
Come Saturday 28 (that is in a few hours), I will
surely get to the polls.
I wish I knew who to vote for! But whatever
happens, I wish us well. I also
urge us not to cause any form of violence.
Nothing here is worth dying for.
Let us shun violence, and vote in THE MAN!

You know you have encountered a
failure when an unserious character
praises
him non-stop. So I was not surprised
when Femi Fani Kayode, a disgrace and
a man who talks more than he should,
decided to deride himself further by
singing the praises of a controversial
non-performer.
According to Fani Kayode, we need more
leaders like Governor T.A Orji in
Nigeria. Why? Because the rate of
development in Abia state, according to
him, is extra-ordinary. First, I am not
surprised one bit. Fani Kayode has
always had this terrible description of
success. Anything bad seems great
to this loquacious left-thinking man.
What exactly is extra-ordinary in
Abia state? The good road networks the
people have? New infrastructure?
Salaries of workers that are being paid?
Payment of gratuities and pensions
of retired civil servants? Cleanliness of
the environment? Civilized tax
payment system? What exactly? Really,
this Fani Kayode man does not respect
himself. He seems to love embarrassing
himself at any and every opportunity
he gets.
As for the leader every Nigerian should
be like, according to Fani Kayode,
I think even he would be surely shocked
by that admission from a man whose
mouth runs like pipe-borne water.
Because surely he knows everywhere in
Abia has collapsed and the people
cannot wait for his tenure to elapse. In
truth, this “leader everyone should
emulate” should start thinking
seriously. If he has a conscience, he
should sit down, call himself to a
meeting and have a sober reflection.
One, he has failed Abia. Two, he has
allowed sycophants surround him. And
like every political jobber, they have
not let him down.
Come 2015, whether or not he wins the
senate, whether or not his preferred
successor wins, he would know the true
meaning of being alone. No praise
singers, no executive powers, and no
awards. Then, even Fani Kayode would
have jumped ship. If bloggers he invited
to the state, who were treated
with ‘love’, could express
disappointment, then what else does he
need to
know?
Fani Kayode has failed himself again.
But then, that is a constant
occurrence. However, if I were him, I
would stop talking. This latest noise
was, in all modesty, one too many.

There is a piece of good news from Aba!
Now the city can be compared to
Lagos. Anyone who leaves home for
another location in the same city gets to
spend hours on the road. Where the
problem lies is the Lagos situation
would be as a result of distance. The Aba
situation?
For the last seven years, we from Abia
state have heard lots of stories on
how Abia has become the America of our
time. Roads have supposedly been
repaired and people are in love with the
governor. The sad part is that we
only get the evidence from the corrupt
Nigerian media alone. Honestly,
whenever I move through the streets of
Aba and Umuahia, I wonder whether I
have run either mental or I probably am
in another state. This is because
nothing of all the noises the corrupt Abia
state government make is true.
Roads in Aba are unbelievable and
shockingly embarrassing. Sometimes I
wonder whether the governor is on
leave. Sometimes I wonder whether he
loves Aba the way it is. Sometimes I
wonder how heartless humans could be.
Is he doing this intentionally, or does he
just not know what to do? Why
does he leave his job to chase shadows?
Even if the former governor of Abia
state kept him in bondage; even if the
former governor of Abia state
performed worse in his own time; does
that explain this reckless attitude
towards the enterprising people of Aba?
I guess I can never get an answer.
After all we are in Nigeria.
I must confess I do not know Etcetera,
even if his name rings a bell.
Whether he is an actor, writer or
musician, I sincerely do not know.
People, I believe, have contrasting
opinion about whatever he writes. I
honestly have not read much of them, so
I may not know where I stand.
However, having read his write-up on
the condition of Aba, I am forced to
ask a question. Is it, as an Igbo proverb
says, that the barber cannot
barb, or the razor blade is not sharp?
Must this state be heard of for the
wrong reasons all the time? I am
honestly sick and tired. But why would I
be?
In a state where salaries, pensions and
gratuities are not paid; a state
where potholes have become a blessing,
because almost all roads are
actually no different from gutters? I am
honestly tired. Aba, that popular
city, has become a joke. I must say I
disagree with Etcetera on something;
he actually committed a grave sin of
understatement.
2015 is around the corner. We are going
to correct all the mistakes. That
is sure. If not, then Aba would be gone
completely. We do not want that to
happen, so we are going to do the
needful. One lesson must be learnt from
Aba. Aba is on its knees at the moment.
But the people’s consolation
remains that the downfall of a man is
certainly not the end of his life.
Aba would rise again. Thank you dearest
Etcetera. On this, I stand with,
and by, you. We would be back. Abia
would rise again. I do not think there
is any question about that.
Finally, Mr President would come to Aba
again for his campaigns. We are
patiently waiting to see the road he
would move through. Patiently.
